Divinity

Divinity is taught throughout the school - by form teachers in years 2, 3 and 4, and by the Chaplain to the rest of the school.

The boys explore stories from both the Old and New Testaments and the issues that emerge from those stories. As early as year 4, boys are encouraged to question both the stories and the issues, especially their application and relevance to their everyday life. In Year 6, the boys engage with three major world religions – Judaism, Christianity and Islam, taking them in a chronological order and constantly making comparisons, especially in terms of commonality. In years 7 and 8 we follow the Common Entrance syllabus, which is similarly structured, although there are twenty set texts that we must study. It is a broad and demanding syllabus and emphasis is placed on discussion. At each stage, the boys' own experience of religion and life in general are considered as learning resources in themselves.
