Year 3 Travel Back to the Victorian Classroom! Our Year 3 boys stepped into the past with a fascinating Victorian School workshop at Reading Museum, experiencing first-hand what education was like over 100 years ago. From practising their handwriting on slates to following strict classroom rules, the boys quickly discovered that Victorian school life was very different from today. High expectations, firm discipline and absolute focus were the order of the day! There was great curiosity as they handled artefacts, explored historical sources and immersed themselves fully in the routines of a 19th-century pupil. The experience brought their History learning vividly to life. And perhaps most importantly... after experiencing a truly strict Victorian classroom, it turns out Mr Wareing isn't quite as strict as they first thought after all A brilliant example of learning beyond the classroom and embracing new challenges with enthusiasm. Maths is thriving at Papplewick! It's been an incredibly busy and exciting time for Mathematics at Papplewick, with our boys embracing challenge, competition and curiosity at every level. UKMT Inter-Schools Maths Challenge We were proud to host our first-ever UKMT Inter-Schools Maths Challenge, welcoming eight visiting schools for a full day of high-energy problem solving. Huge congratulations to Hadley, Sameer, Eric and Joshua who won the overall competition and lifted the trophy for Papplewick! Special mention to Eduard and Edward (Year 8) who ran the event with outstanding leadership and professionalism. Cheltenham College Team Maths Challenge Our Year 5 & 6 team of Hadley, Sameer, Kimi and Sahib secured an exceptional 2nd place against strong competition demonstrating resilience, teamwork and superb problem-solving under pressure. Papplewick Maths Battles Tournament We have also launched our inaugural Maths Battles Tournament, bringing together leading schools for a series of strategic mathematical showdowns. Judged by George Clements (King's College London), Papplewick has already progressed to the semi-finals an impressive start! Royal Institution Maths Masterclass – The Wonders of π Led by Ryan O'Loughlin (University of Reading), pupils explored the fascinating world of π from circles to searching for their own birthdays hidden within its infinite digits. From hosting major competitions to podium finishes and deep mathematical exploration, it has been a remarkable period for Maths at Papplewick.
