Maths Battle incoming! Later today, Papplewick will go head-to-head with Sir William Perkins's School in our first Maths Battle! The two teams will have an hour to work together to solve a series of challenging mathematical problems before the battle begins. They'll then present and defend their solutions, with points awarded for their mathematical reasoning and explanations. We're also delighted to be welcoming Dr Thomas Prince from Winchester, alongside his students Aaron and Cem, who will take on the important task of judging the battle. Problem-solving, teamwork, quick thinking and a little friendly competition good luck to both teams! The first recital of the year! Just before Exeat, our musicians took to the stage for the first Informal Solo Recital of the new academic year. With a wide range of instruments on show, it was wonderful to see so many boys performing and sharing their music with an audience. A brilliant start to what promises to be another packed musical calendar at Papplewick. Well done to all the boys who performed, and to everyone involved in putting together such an enjoyable morning of music! UKMT Inter-Schools Event Last week, our Year 5 & 6 UKMT Inter-Schools Event brought together young mathematicians from schools near and far, filling the hall with incredible energy, excitement and enthusiasm for mathematics! From Logic and Crossnumber to the fast-paced Shuttle and Relay, the hall was alive with teamwork, problem-solving, friendly competition and plenty of smiles. One member of staff captured it perfectly, saying she "walked into the hall especially to soak up the amazing energy and enthusiasm." Our older boys also stepped up to serve the community, supporting the event throughout and helping to create such a warm and welcoming atmosphere. And to top it all off, Hadley entertained our guests with a brilliant binary quote from his favourite mathematician, Matt Parker a perfect little moment where maths, humour and personality came together! A wonderful celebration of young minds, problem-solving, tenacity, collaboration and the sheer joy of thinking mathematically. WHOLE SCHOOL PENALTY SHOOTOUT! The pressure was on as the whole school took part in our Papplewick Penalty Shootout! Each year group had its own goal, with either a brave member of staff or one of our goalkeepers stepping between the posts. One by one, the boys stepped up from the spot, with each competition whittled down until just one winner remained in each year group! A brilliant atmosphere and plenty of great penalties, saves and celebrations along the way. Well done to all the boys for getting stuck in and, of course, to the staff who quite literally put their bodies on the line!
