Charity and Outreach
Charity and community outreach plays a very important part of Papplewick life. Our annual sponsored walk is a whole school event with families and friends invited to walk nearly ten miles around Windsor Great Park to raise money for a charity close to the heart of a student or one of their families. The most recent walk raised over £14,000 for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).
In addition to regular charity events, part of the Thursday Afternoon activity programme (Charity Club) includes outreach work at a local Care Home where the boys entertain and talk to the residents, and exchange stories and play games. Students also support Alexander Devine Children's Hospice by undertaking a variety of jobs that support the Santa Dash and Summer Fair events.
An integral part of the Year 8 Leavers' Studies is participating in charity work to help local charities in any way they see fit. This year our Year 8 boys supported the Windsor Foodshare and Swings and Smiles, Thatcham. The boys gain a huge amount from these visits and the variety of work has a huge impact on local charities and its many volunteers.
The Stag Challenge is an annual expedition which enables a small number of boys to travel to the Eastern Cape of South Africa to carry out charitable work for the Ubunye Foundation. Each boy is tasked with planning and executing their own fundraising and all the money raised is donated to the foundation. This year we raised over £5,000 and the money has gone towards the 'Beautiful Toilet Project', which will enable the project visited to build an eco-toilet block that ensures the children that attend the community centre have access to safe and environmentally friendly toilets. The boys who take on the Stag Challenge are also given the opportunity to visit a project where they can visit the facilities, meet the staff and ultimately support the young children that access the services.
