Papplewick, Ascot

Preparatory School for boys aged 6-13 Day, Weekly & Full Boarding

English

In this ever-changing world, it is vital that students can communicate effectively. It is our belief at Papplewick that the boys should leave being able to read and communicate confidently, clearly and concisely. Boys are of course prepared for their Year 6 ISEB examination, held in November of Year 6. However, English at Papplewick is about life and experience, not just about assembling pieces of language or exercising skills. We want the boys to be confident communicators on paper and in discussion, so we need them to know that they will be listened to. Of course, spelling, punctuation and grammar have their place, but we seek to unite analytical thinking with imagination, technical accuracy with flair, and help all our pupils to see beyond the surface. We encourage everyone to become independent readers, focused listeners, and fluent writers of our language. Boys at Papplewick will develop the skills necessary to be able to question and explore the world around them. It is our aim at Papplewick to inspire a love of learning and an appreciation of the power and beauty of language.
