Classics and Latin

Latin: All boys at Papplewick study Latin from Year 5 onwards. The School has its own Beginners' Course, which all boys employ. Barbara Bell's innovative course Minimus is also used, particularly for providing the boys with a cultural framework to their studies. In Years 6 and 7, the potential scholarship candidates work through L. A. Wilding’s Latin Course for Schools books one and two, whilst the other sets use a combination of the new ISEB Common Entrance Latin books and the School's own resources. In Year 8, practice CE papers are the meat for the two Common Entrance sets. The Scholarship form have their own construction and vocabulary booklet. They also use Gradatim for Unseen translation and Comprehension practice, and Black's Aids to Scholarship Latin for prose composition.

Greek: The top set study Greek in Years 6, 7 and 8. They use L. A.  Wilding's inestimable Greek for Beginners. The School has its own Greek grammar and vocabulary books.

Classical Civilisation: All boys who follow the Common Entrance course sit the new Classical Civilisation paper in Year 8. The department has its own booklet, and this is combined with many other resources.
