Maths

Our aim is to instil confidence in mathematics in every boy to enable them to achieve their full potential. Fundamental to every child's success in this subject is having the 'basics' and learning times-tables and mental techniques are stressed, especially in the early years. The curriculum is based on the National Curriculum, and ISEB Common Entrance and Scholarship syllabuses. Boys are also prepared for their Year 6 ISEB examination, held in November of Year 6. This preparation process entails the boys sitting 11+ styled tests during Year 5 on a regular basis as well as conducting weekly Atom Learning sessions which closely resemble the ISEB online testing platform. Boys sit their final Common Entrance or Scholarship exams at the end of Year 8. Whether we are preparing a scholar or a boy supported by our extra tuition team, the Papplewick Maths Department aims to equip all boys with the necessary practical skills and knowledge for them to develop into confident and enthusiastic mathematicians at their senior schools and beyond.
