A wonderful way to bring the academic year to a close. Speech Day is always a special occasion, giving the whole Papplewick community the opportunity to come together and celebrate the achievements, progress and contributions of our boys. Congratulations to all of our prize winners, but also to every pupil who has played their part in another fantastic year. Each boy has helped make Papplewick the thriving community it is today. It was a pleasure to welcome Old Papplewickian Andrew back to deliver an inspiring address, reflecting on his own time at the school and encouraging the boys as they look ahead. We also enjoyed a thoughtful, witty and brilliantly delivered speech from our departing Head Boy, Finn. The afternoon concluded with heartfelt farewells to our departing members of staff, particularly Mr & Mrs Malan and Mr & Mrs Bunbury. The Bunburys were presented with their Old Boys' ties, alongside one final keepsake that has rung out across countless school days during their time at Papplewick – the lunchtime bell. Our Chair of Governors, Andrew Tye, paid a fitting tribute to the Bunburys, recognising the extraordinary impact they have had on Papplewick. Their leadership, dedication and vision have helped shape the school into the flourishing community it is today, and they leave with the gratitude and very best wishes of the entire Papplewick family. What a day at Goodwood! Goodwood has always been one of the toughest karting venues on the calendar, so we were delighted to see our teams rise to the challenge with some outstanding performances. Papplewick Monster raced superbly throughout the day to finish 3rd overall out of 102 karts, bringing home a well-deserved trophy. Night Chaser also impressed, winning all six of their timed sprint races and showing tremendous speed and consistency. The standout moment, however, came in the Lap of Champions – a 4km race around the historic Goodwood circuit. Against a field of 102 karts, Josh produced an exceptional drive to take the chequered flag. We knew he'd made a brilliant start and gained plenty of places, but we had no idea he'd won until the results were announced later in the day. It was a fantastic achievement and a fitting way to round off an unforgettable day. Congratulations to all the boys for representing Papplewick with such determination, teamwork and enthusiasm. Returning home with two trophies from one of the most competitive events of the year was a superb effort. OPERATION: FINAL SPLASH The order was given. The staff assembled. Super Soakers were loaded. And, one last time, Mr Bunbury led from the front. The boys attacked in waves. Water flew from every direction. No surrender. No dry shirts. No mercy. As with every great campaign, there were moments of bravery, plenty of laughter and memories that will last far longer than soggy socks. 'Bunbury Open House' and Old Boys' Day - Sunday July 5th All Old Boys, former parents, former staff, and families are welcome to attend on Sunday 5th July 2026 when all the Bunburys will be present for those wishing to say a final farewell. The traditional Headmaster's XI vs the Old Boys' XI will also be taking place commencing at 11.00am, and all guests are welcome to enjoy drinks and lunch which will be served in the marquee at 1.00pm. Tea will also be served from 3.30pm. Old Boys from the vintage of 2016 will be particularly welcome for their ten year reunion! A fantastic day of cricket as we welcomed the U13 boys from Cornwall Hill College to Papplewick for our annual fixture. Played in a wonderful spirit, the match was followed by a BBQ before the boys headed off with host families and experienced life in the Papplewick boarding community. Friendships were made, memories created and another successful chapter added to a partnership that continues to grow year after year. We look forward to seeing Cornwall Hill again next summer!
